Default Player Contract killing?

It seems to fit with the conan lore very well.

Giving players the ability to make a contract to kill other players. A guild or person that has issues with another person or guild and wants to be discrete about the killing to avoid a war. They could hire out other players willing to take the contract.

Maybe a board similar to the wanted posters a player could make a quest naming the target and setting how much of a reward (from their own pocket) for completion. And other players could accept the quest. Either setting a time limit to complete the quest or having it so the first one that turns in players head (or whatever) gets the credit.

Just wondering what others think of the idea.

Collaboration and a lack of consequences makes this moot.

The hunter and hunted can cut a deal, I'll meet you someplace, we split the bounty.

And... the person being killed really suffers no drawback, so why WOULDN'T they try to cut a deal?

There was an idea of this nature (tied in around the time of blood coins) that disappeared sometime shortly prior to release.

bummer, I think something like this would really add to the pvp nature of this game.

I've played Eve-Online and they have a system like this. It's extremely useful and plays into the game story quite well. I believe it would be an excellent feature to have (be able to put contracts on player's lives and other tasks as well). The implementation method wouldn't be a problem (at least not for me) - there are so many different ways you could do this. Personally, I think you should add an option in the traders (or create a new NPC specifically for this) where you can go and enter the Player's name(s), the amount you're going to pay (funds would be deducted right then), the time limit (if any) and any other comments you want to add to the contract. Then you could click a button 'Create Contract' and voila! - it goes into a database where other players can access it through the same (auction-style) interface. Also, you should be able to sort these listed contracts by amount of money offered and time limit and also alphabetically by target Player's name.

I haven't played eve yet, but that part sounds great. I certainly hope they reconsider this at some point. And yes from what I can see there are many ways they could go about it's implementation.

I just see something like this opening a lot to the guild vs guild and pvp of this game. It would almost add a whole other play style to the game, who hasn't wanted to be a hired killer (aka ninja) in a mmorpg at one point?

Edit: think of it, assassins could be real assassins. As could any class for that matter.

haha caught me while editing, pretty much same thought. Ya that would be class love imho. I could see it as a big draw for stealthy types. I normally play them myself.

I like the idea of that aswell. And just for the fact that that job is supposed to be an assassins' job. Perhaps they should get some kind of bonus in either pay or ability to get the job done. Just seems to fit in well with it, or cut all other classes out that aren't rogue. (But that don't seem to fair, personally.)

Good idea --

But I don't see how this can be done in such a way as to preserve anonymity. However, if public bounties can be posted -- and collected only upon death -- it would work.
