Default Trader: how do you figure out what to charge?

I have a ton of things to sell. But when I go to the trader to put those things up for sale, I have no idea what a fair or reasonable price would be for each item. The search as it currently exists isn't terribly helpful in this regard: I'm used to clicking on an item in my sales list and being able to quickly search or see current high/low/average prices for that item in some way. Yes, I'm lazy... I want to get all my junk up for sale in 10 seconds and get back to playing, so sue me.

My question to folks out there: how do *you* decide what to charge for items you put up for sale? Is there a formula you use based on level/item plusses/phase of the moon? Is there a search feature on the trader I'm just not seeing?

Or is everyone out there just selling stuff to the NPC merchants for tin like I usually do? And how about that "once an item has been up for sale on the trader NPC merchants will never buy it" bug? Isn't that a hoot!

Thanks in advance for your thoughts and advice!

All I can suggest is put it up for sale at whatever price you want. People will either buy it at that price, or they won't. If it doesn't sell in a couple of days, lower the price. If it still won't sell in a couple of days, lower the price even more. If you just don't think it'll sell at all after a while, stop selling it and destroy it, or mail it to an alt to sell it to a vendor.

Quillan, your suggestion matches pretty much what I was doing originally... the "can't sell stuff to NPC merchant if it has been offered on the trader" bug has frustrated me in that approach, though. I hadn't thought about mailing items to an alternate to bypass the bug... but that would be kind of a pain as well.

Demon, what you suggest is what I've been doing lately. I just would like to make a bit more than a few tin: getting three gold together for a horse seems an awfully long way off at that rate! But I'm lazy, so the "hassle" that exists currently in terms of trying to figure out what an item might be worth combined with the trader/NPC merchant bug makes the effort aggravating.

Interesting that the first two posts I get on this thread are a) constructive and b) match the two approaches I've tried already Thanks, folks- keep any thoughts or ideas flowing here...

Typically I charge 3-5x what a vendor would buy the item for. I sell about half of what I put up. The rest is probably not visible to be bought =)

Lol whatever, I've made at least 6g from selling blue equipment, and probably spent like 5g.

While the current system makes this a bit difficult, especially since people don't buy from traders often, I find a nice round number a little below the cheapest price I find currently listed by other players for that item but above what the venders will give me (which isn't too difficult). So long as no one undercuts me in the same fashion pretty fast, my item will usually sell fast.

But I rarely sell through the trader in AoC...my inventory fills so fast that I usually end up selling to a vender just to clear room for more stuff when it would take too much time to make it all the way back to a trader.

Been selling for about 1.5 of what the NPC's offer and been able to clear the stuff out quickly enough to restock. Blues go for 2-2.5. Don't bother to sell anything without a worthwwhile stat. +int, str, wis, dex, regen, sta
