Necromancer Stygian

My faith in the Necro class is sealed and will never be lost again
K.
Nightfall specc'd at level 40 in the field of the dead, I use 4x Despoil the Soul buffs, and 1x corruptor (for my fear cast)
I saw a party of two conquerors, I killed one of them, and the other to like 10% hp with my dots on him after I died but they were both potting and I did not want to pot against them, I never pot in pvp unless I'm at an extreme disadvantage, and 1v2 isn't THAT bad, but I would pot if I was talking to an NPC and someone started attacking me, or I was half hp from fightning mobs and got attacked.
I came back to finish a quest there, and then I was suddenly surrounded by both the conquerors (who are 41 and 43 btw) and this time they have a bear shaman with them, not in their group, but attacking only me and me alone.
I sac my pet for the aoe fear, put motd, worms, lifestrike on one target, motd on another target, and begin kiting. This fight I pop my pots, they are doing it too again anyways (and its 1v3). I get enough room from a brief sprint and I put motd on the third target, and reapply lifestrike/worms on my original target that I put all the dots on (a conqueror). I now continue to kite them around, and everytime they got near catching up to me, I stop and use blasphemous ruin and run away again. When they stagger me or charge to me, I would start casting on them again and use my quick cast aoe's and use active blocking (well parrying in us necro's case)
In between all this running, I manage to find the time to summon another corruptor and use death eater on it, giving me a hot and over 240+ healtlh/max health (with my 1k total health before using the sacrifice, its pretty noticeable)
everytime I get a small amount of distance, I just cast another quick cast dot or nuke (chill, worms, lifestrike) and everytime they get close to me, I do quick cast aoe's. When they managed to get me really low with stun or stagger or something, thats what I save my aoe fear for, or I wait for it to end while active blocking, pot, and kite while the pot kicks in
Eventually I wore them out and the conquerors were around 25% hp, so I go up to them, blasphemous ruin + decay, and one of them dies, the other dies with a chill, and I finished off the bear shaman with getting distance, summoning another corruptor, dotting him up, fearing him, and nuking him down while feared with pest blast/icestrike/chill.
No they were not people with down syndrome and didn't know what to do, they were decent players that knew what they were doing.
the ONLY way and the extreme KEY to winning this fight was the sole idea that my MotD I cast on all three of them kept them all in combat and prevented them from regenerating their health while they were just chasing me, death eater is an amaaaazing feat for pvp and it gives me a huge health increase and a HoT for 1 minute.
I do not see this changing much at 80, with this play style, you shouldn't get hit much at all, unless you're caught in a very bad spot, but with the max hp from death eater, you should be able to not die from a stunlock. At 80 I actually have Freeze and a fear that doesn't require me to sacrifice a minion to use, AND I get a snare from gelid bones.
There is no other class that can pull this off, either you die because you have to stand still too long to do any damage, or you can't do enough damage from your quick casts to kill anyone and when you run they just regen their hp, and you either keep on running or die. We are the only class that can keep them in combat with our crazy ass MotD. I can't wait to get to 80.
Things to Note: (mostly for vs melee and around my level)
- keep motd up on all targets you're fighting and kite, they can't out-of-combat regen
- when kiting away, never ever face your back towards them, so strafe kite (run in the opposite direction of them, but moving sideways)
- don't use any long casts like pest blast or ice strike unless you know for sure that they won't catch you when you do it
- always use your fast cast dots and nukes, life strike, worms, and chill, when you sprint away and get a little window of time to cast
- when they are about to catch up to you, just stop and blasphemous ruin, it'll hit them right in the face and you just keep on kiting away after that, its only 0.5sec cast
- don't despoil the soul all your pet slots away... you'll need it for something, either death eater or fear (unless you have the high level fear)
- if you need to get a chance to do a lot of damage, then get some distance, start casting as much as you can, and when they get to you, aoe fear them all, and cast some more, this will add a lot of damage and pressure
- you're trying to wear them out, not nuke them down as fast as you can, you have motd to allow you to do it, so don't get impatient because you WILL die if you stand there too long
- if you get staggered (hit in the back making you move a lot slower) do not do not do not do not do not try to run, if you are low on health or taking too much damage, go active blocking and sprint the hell away when the snare is off, if you're fine, then just start blowing him up with your casts, and sprint away immediately when stagger is over. If you're fine but you do not want to get hit anymore because you know he's got a CC coming, then get real close on top of him and use your frost blast, if you get the aiming correctly, you got him immobilized and you can move free away.
Just don't try to run away while staggered it doesn't do jack ****
- Manage your stamina, it's as important as your hp, don't waste it all at once unless you absolutely need to, and try not to get to the "exhausted" debuff, if you're not in any immediate danger you can try to save up some stamina for the time after you get stunned or whatever so you can haul ass out of there
Hope all of you found this interesting, useful, helpful, or at least hopeful? Stick around the class guys, we are not completely underpowered as the bandwagon says, just have to learn and adapt around it
