An Honest List of Issues
To start with, I have been a fervent and sometimes rabid defender of Funcom since this game was released. I still am. I trust you guys are sincerely trying to respond to problems, and to be frank I realize that with the conflicting requests and massive negativity of the forum it's probably a nightmare to try to do the right thing. So I am going on the assumption that you still really do care and are just bewildered by the crap you have to put up with.
So to do my part, rather than complain like so many others I want to submit a list of known issues and suggestions for fixing them, in order of priority.
- June 2nd update should be flat out reverted in entirely ASAP. Very, very few players really believe it was a good update on almost any account. This is a top priority, and to be blunt it ought to be done tomorrow morning (that's when you usually do updates). Please just take the servers down for four or five hours tomorrow and undo the damage done.
- Fixing crafting and gathering issues. The endgame is what was promised. I am aware that it's not entirely there. Alright, I forgive this. You thought you would have more time than this to finish working on it and I am not holding a grudge. But the first step towards fixing that is to let us start working on the things we will eventually need to get the endgame rolling. This means all crafting and gathering skill, as enumerated here:
1) Gemcutting is unusable in entirety. Trying to use gems often crashes the whole game. This is a top priority since it's a game crashing issue.
2) Weapons and armor crafting are known to fail after tier 2. Since itemization is such a major issue you're facing, this may relieve it some. You can worry about expanding it later.
3) Cotton. Ok, I realize you wanted to fix this today but it's only sensible to just undo this update and start from scratch. Obviously though in the near future this needs fixing. Probably at the same time the above do.
4) Guild villages are apparently unbuildable in a practical sense. This also needs fixing as soon as you find a reliable fix for it.
- Fixing instancing. Common consensus is that the problems with instancing abuse to evade combat is most sensibly solved by just making instance switching impossible while in combat much as resting or reviving is not allowed while in combat. Simple fix. Leave the rest as it is, I honestly do not feel the potential for abuse of instances is otherwise particularly great and it does a great deal to help with overcrowding in quest areas, while still letting groups form with ease no matter their instance. I for one like how you did this.
- I humbly request that you do not nerf any classes for some time to come. Yes, I have vocally complained that my barbarian was badly damaged with his current feat build. But I am not the only one who feels the nerfing is out of hand. Character balance is not nearly as big an issue yet and it also needs to be done VERY judiciously and carefully, in baby steps. Monster changes, even if you did not realize it was a monster change, need to be avoided because this leads to great frustration. If an ability is overpowered it should be toned down tiny little bit by tiny little bit until it hits that magic "just right" number. No huge changes, we would pretty much all rather have a couple overpowered classes than have ANY badly damaged classes. Also remember that what balances things in PvP may have a totally adverse effect in PvE, which cannot just be ignored. The right choice has to take both into consideration and hence must be done carefully and wisely.
- Graphics/performance issues are a greater problem than classes by a long shot. I am under no delusion that making wide compatability is an easy job, you guys have a huge task and I don't envy it but a solution needs to be in the works. With that, see below.
- Please listen to your players/customers. We're not all against you. We really would appreciate it if you'd tell us WHAT you're working on before you even release it. It both lets us prepare for changes and it also demonstrates to the community that you're not ignoring our pleas. If you really are already working on performance fixes, then a simple note saying, "The developers are hard at work finding a solution to this problem, but we cannot promise a release time for this specific fix. Please have patience, we are not ignoring you" would do absolute wonders for winning the love and loyalty of your fan base. Nothing makes a player feel more hopeful than knowing you heard him and are taking his requests under considering and actually acting on them even if we don't see the results tomorrow. So it takes you two weeks to fix it, we can live with it if we know it's on the way!
Signed,
A loyal player, even when you make mistakes.

It is a problem I agree but far less of a problem than the things I mentioned, all of which are "true bugs" rather than just content oversights that can be fixed later, and just as importantly, may require a more extensive fix than a little code revision.

Content designers are different then programmers, programmers should be fixing bugs and designers should be adding more content. And honestly, I'd rather crash a couple of times then have to grind for 5 levels 400k xp+ per level.

Bumped, because these concerns are legitimate and deserve better than a fourth page burial.

Wow, most of this was apparently taken into consideration, as a list of stuff that is being worked on, including most of what I mention, is now posted.
Good work guys!
