Are Mini-Games going to be significant?
I mainly play MMOs for the PvP aspect but decided to roll on PvE due to the PvP servers being FFA gankfests (or so I hear). So I started off rolling on a PvE server thinking I would get my PvP in with the PvP mini-games now and then while leveling to 80, and then at 80 focus on the guild town fights, town sieges or whatever they're called.
I've got a few characters hovering around 19 right now due to leveling each class one by one to find what suits me best. It seems that every time I try to join a PvP mini-game, it says there's 25-30 players in the queue and not usually more than 6 queuing for what I am (usually annihilate, but i switch to cap the skull just to check if it has more). This leads to waiting and waiting for enough to want to join and eventually giving up.
What's the deal with pvp mini-games currently? Is there really only 25~ players looking for a game in all brackets? I can switch to each of my choices and the number of players queued for each don't add up to the total # queued, so that doesn't make much sense. Do I need to join a PvP server to have some PvP fun or does this change as I level up?

I don't think people joined an MMO to play minigames, that's all. It's a big mistake on Funcoms part. I don't think anyone expected them to use a testing tool as part of the game proper. At least I didn't.

Hrm, I would play PvP servers but FFA has always felt to disorganized and meaningless to me. The end game PvP attracted me to this game and I was hoping to use the mini-games as a way to test class PvP play style before I spent any significant amount of time on a character. WoW's bgs were ok for the same thing, especially since the world PvP was such garbage most of the time.

Testing your class out works just fine in FFA PvP; you just need to have a bit of patience.
I like to compare WoW to Unreal Tournament or any FPS game that isn't really as fun, in a sense that you're not playing an RPG at all, just a series of minigames.
I seriously doubt that people will be doing much of the pvp minigames in AoC, because at least 50% of the people that play hated WoW

Hence the MASSIVE uproar when Funcom announced they were tying minigames to sieging opportunities.

Well I have a few characters up to the 20's and to tell ya the truth the mini games were the most fun part of the game for me. They are kind of tough to get into though as it seems not a whole lot of people Que. I've had good luck getting in them on Deathwhisper PVP and on Set PVE. I think they will become more popular when everyone gets burnout on leveling and needs a break. I just Que up and and go about the game and it pops sooner or later. The good thing is that you come out exactly where you were before ya went in. So if your fightin a bunch of tough mobs guess where you will come back to, Lol. Might wanna hit the accept button in a safe area.

I'm on Set PvE and they just don't pop fast enough for me. I keep trying to join as my ToS who is just about ready to turn 20 so I can't go level up while I wait, or I'll miss the 19 bracket =/
I'm trying out some PvP server since I've just been going on hearsay so far... maybe it'll be fun? Really wish there was more mini-game interest, or if they had WoW type BG groups.

I'm on a pvp server and I still think the minigames are fun. group vs group doesn't happen that often in world pvp (at least up through FotD) so it's a nice change of pace.

It's an entirely different style of PvP. I love world PvP, and I love instanced PvP. I'm hoping that once people start hitting higher levels it will be easier to find games for Annihilation and Capture the Skull, especially since I rolled on a PvE server.
PS: The only reason I rolled on a PvE server is because all of my friends in real life decided that they don't like FFA PvP, and I would rather play with my friends on a PvE server than play by myself on a PvP server.

Interesting to see all the PVPers here who rolled on PVE servers. I hope the minigames work out for you. So far, on my server, there is not much minigame action, but I imagine it will pick up when more people are leveled.
