ATI vs nVidia
This is not a 'my video card is better' thread.
Every benchmark I've seen of AoC has shown that ATI cards are outperforming nVidia cards by a sizeable margin. Obviously the game has been optimised specifically for ATI hardware.
I understand that ATI cards are quite popular in Europe and the UK, but outside that region they're in the minority with nVidia dominating.
So everyone who owns an nVidia card gets good performance in all their games and then when they run AoC the performance is not so good. This doesn't reflect on the video card, it reflects on the game.
If Funcom really wanted to maximise subscribers I would have thought that they'd try to show their game in the best possible light, but if nVidia card owners aren't getting the performance they could be it only adds another reason why maybe they shouldn't subscribe.
Oh and when is that DX10 update coming again?

Opening a can of worms with this title.
That problem you described is definitely a driver issue which ATI seems to have dialed in just right, just like how Nvidia has the original Crysis more optimized than their rival.
But the thing is also, who is to say Funcom is to blame. It could most likely be Nvidia that is at fault for not optimizing their drivers for AoC.
Anyways, video card company optimization isn't exactly at the top of what FC should prioritize right now to get more suscribers.

Personally speaking I have a 8800GT Nvidia card. I can honestly say that when it comes down to gaming the card runs all my games nicely except for one.....AoC. I have a decent gaming rig to begin with (not the best but good) to play games. Everytime I play AoC, I can count on OOM leak, a CTD, graphic errors in game, etc etc.
The bottom line is I have seen AoC rise and fall. It had SO MUCH potential on being a top contender MMO. However with no updates going on a month, still a broken pvp system, declining subscribers and all the other problems people are having with this game you get a washed down barely working product....and to add salt to the wound you get a game that has issues with Nvidia its graphics sponsor. Why hasn't Nvidia publicy comment about this game? Maybe because the problem isn't on Nvidia's end.

Nvidia hasn't commented on any game. Why would they comment on AoC in the history of all the games created since they've been in business?
I'd be interested in want some GT280/GT260 users have to say about performance. Stalker is another game that was "The Way its Meant To Be Played" that does better with ATI as well. Far Cry2 is going to be the next one.

What ATI card is that info on? I'm running an HD 3870X2 and I get crap for frames in AoC. I talk to people with NVIDIA cards with lower specs than my card that are getting upwards of 50 FPS average. It's a good day when my average FPS is 25. No, this game plays far better on NVIDIA than on ATI. Not that this is ATI's fault. Every other new game I play runs on max without a hitch.

The entire current 4xxx series 4850, 4870, 4870x2 specifically. This is why you can not make these BROAD statements "No, this game plays far better on NVIDIA than on ATI." Completely and utterly FALSE.

I get very acceptable frame rates on 2 3870 in Xfire. Mind you, graphic power alone doe snot cut it here as you also need a good CPU.

HD 4850 Crossfire is a very good price vs performance option for 1920x with filtering active and all enabled in AoC-

I use an HD 4870 X2 @ 1920x with 12xCFAA|16xAF, bloom, full shadows, max ground quality radius and all the rest set to high. I've yet to see less than 35FPS. Old Tarantia harbor use to drop my overclocked GTX 260 to 18FPS in some areas as above but with only 4xAA. Min there with the HD 4870 X2 and 12xCFAA is 35FPS. I love the card. I have my core bumped up to 800 from 750.
The reason it runs well on current ATi hardware is not because of FC and rather design choices made by ATi.
ATi's AA is also slightly better than nVidia's in some instances-

You have to be careful with the "My card plays the game very well" stuff. I used to say that. I have an NVIDIA 8800GT and I really had no complaints about my overall performance.
Then I started raiding.
24 people crowded close to a boss pumping out a maximum load of visual effects. Even in low with particles off, my framerate is in the 5-10 range. Makes me want to throw my PC out the window.
I have heard that twin NVIDIA SLI cards, specifically 9800s is the way to go, so that's my plan (when I find the money).
