I've been an avid critic of Funcom's attention to sieges since prelaunch, and lemme tell ya.

They WORK now!!!

Last night, I think was the most intense, dramatic, hardcore siege I've ever seen.

You could taste the hate in the air, lol.

Already some 200 posts in less than 24 hours, and it feels like the morning after the prom.

Guards work! They weren't fixed on testlive even, but they are now! The aggro level and strength of the guards was perfect. And they actually didn't attack a single defender!

My side saved our keep, we had inferior fighters, many were in their 50's-70's, but we had considerably more sieging experience than the attackers and a whole lotta <3.

Ballistas and Trebuchets worked perfectly.

Lag was less than any siege I have ever been a part of (this was my 11th hotly contested siege), with a full 48 on 48.

I will add a video to this thread sometime late tonight or maybe tomorrow, I operated ballistas most of the fight, so I had a great bird's eye view.

We lost in points by like 800? And our inner keep wall was breached with 15 minutes left, our inner keep itself took damage in the last 3 minutes of the fight, dropping to 91% in two or three hits.


Sieges FTW!

(I honestly didn't think you guyz would come through, but I'm still glad I gave ya hell for it!)

Well, with not a single wisp of complaint, because it wasn't a big enough issue to sway the course of the battle at all, guards were still a bit broken, being unattackable by nearly all the players for the vast duration of the fight (with ridiculously small pockets of vulnerability). Other than that though, the technicality of it was perfect, although I still think there needs to be some dimensions added to make sieges a bit more engaging (redesigning layout so that it takes longer for fallen fighters to get back into the action, adding action effects to the destruction of buildings and the ammo of siege weapons, and of course, so boiling oil to be utilized by the defenders).

Yeah, we had one the other day, as well and it went pretty well. All game mechanics were working, performance was improved, etc. The only thing that was still messed-up was that some of our t3 walls were walk-through'able, but we had a GM watching the siege to make sure noone exploited it.

Besides some of the holes in the keep walls and the unattackable guards, sieging is great now! I'll add more to this post in a bit with an edit. Currently in mini-games to get more points to siege more!

Sieges are great. But if FC is listening, which I know they are not, it would be nice if we could have a siege leader, which could put way points on the maps for the various groups in the sieges. Also seeing siege equipment on the map would be a boon as well.

It's tools like that would really help make sieges even more fun.

Good ideas, you should post that in the Suggestion forum. I think it would be a good idea for more sieges to happen more often. Those of you participating in them. Would you say they are more fun than Raids if you have participated in that? Would you say that Sieges are as much in AOC as you have had yet?

I am looking forward to this a lot and our guild is very very close to doing it. Hoping we can get in on it and have some competition.

Sieges have come a long way.

The next big step would be a formal alliance system (shared chat channel, non-attackable, not booted during sieges, whatever). Pretty much every siege in the game is going to see some allies/mercenaries/friends wanting in, and you have to guild them to avoid cross-raids red tags, which is a major hassle. The alternative is permanently merging, but that means giving up your guilds' individual character, etc.

I'm quite happy about that. Although I've being exploring pve content more often (and rolling on test-live for that purpose too), I'm looking forward to any pvp end-game improvements ahead aswell.

I read your post on t-live woman (and other people's feedback) and I'm glad those on test-live are indeed helping Funcom to spot those bugs and balance issues.

What we really need, right now, is precisely that: people rolling on TL, engaging organized events and organized testing procedures. I strongly encourage everyone currently playing AOC to join this effort and contribute within those hosted events, where QA people will be closely watching (and therefore, devs too).
