Guards influencing specs is just ridiculous and yes the guards are places near places where Funcon does not want pvp to happened but the problem with that is yes, you can control not attacking someone near the guards, but you can't control the people you are attacking running back to the guards with their dots and so on.

I see your point about people "running to the guards" and agree that that is not only unfortunate but extremely annoying and dishonorable.
Now, if people are running to the guards to get away from you because they don't want to pvp then that's exactly what the guards are there for.
However, if someone is openly and freely engaging you in pvp then I believe they should rightly die by your hand and not run to the guards when it looks like they are going to lose. That is what annoys me to no end and I will no longer waste my time playing with them.
