How about instead of crying about what the newbies are getting, be gratefull that Funcom is offering incentives to get new players into the game for YOU to kill and group with. Fresh players are the best content.

Merged servers (better population across the board) + "Cool" (highly debateable to anyone who actually seiges and has one of these coveted Mammoths) freebie mounts + Holiday shopping season = A good chance for AoC to have a '2nd launch' so to speak. I would say based on the internet advertising I have seen, its exactly what they are trying to do.

FFS Funcom is doing ALOT of what we asked for, and we still relentlessly bash them for it.

I think the economy of AoC is to blame for much of the content. I mean lvl 80 and we are still dealing with frick'n TIN? Evidently FunCom, from the beginning, did not want a flourishing economy. Whatever...

like a server merge plan that allows players with less seniority take our character names? What a great way to show your appreciation to us for sticking it out.

TBH I like my character names a lot but I'm not married to them, it's the fact that a company would do this to their vet players that I find repugnant.

Meh, a mammoth is a fairly useless item. If you want to see a really bad example of something like this, look at Turbine. Last year, they gave a subset of their subscribers a holiday mount that you could ride 10 levels early. Imagine low-level players running around Tortage and Tesso. It wasn't a fluff item like a mammoth or a pet zergling. And, this is a mount and early riding ability was something that other players could not buy in game at any price. Now, that was a bone-headed move.

I don't even see this mammoth offer as something necessarily bad. I hope it attracts more customers, which would be a huge long-term plus for all of us. This game needs that more than anything, and I'm glad Funcom is doing something to address it.

Meh.

Phone, television and cable companies do this all the time. It's simply a marketing tool. Is it fair that you are paying 49.95$ a month for your internet and your neighbour is paying 29.95$ for the same thing? No. Not really, but such is the free market economy.

I am not high enough level yet to worry about mammoth acquisition, but can you sell a mammoth once you have one if you don't want it anymore?

If not, then I have no concerns. If so, then I have some thoughts on this that I will post further down the thread.
