Unless AoC gets bought by another company, this game will continue to coast along with minimal updates. It's time we all stop beating the dead horse and just accept the fact it's over. Servers will stay up, but nothing much is really going to happen.
This, its well & truly over.
Even with the current financial situation Funcom are in, the community team arent even taking the most basic steps to promote AoC. Still nothing from them at all & if they cant even manage that then its over.

Couldn't agree more. I even went as far as uninstalling the game tonight. T3 gear repainted and restat to make T6 ain't enough to keep me F2P let alone subscribe as I've done since 08'.

    I wish you well FUNCOM.

    Where Joel finished his extensive update letters by saying;

    "See you on the battlefield",

    sezmra says "rawr".

I agree. This is the end, and when people who get paid for developing the game and feeding the community information can't even produce a simple development letter that would contain useful information for the playerbase, it's just horrible. Simple steps could have been taken to turn things around. One step at a time. Quite happy that I did not get that latest subscription offer.

I count one pumpkin boss (which actually was nice, but only available during special event), some scripts possibly and a lot of graphical glitches and bugs (see through armor, black shadow armor paintings, weird girdles, missing game textures (nodes) and world placeables (mountains, cages etc.) as stuff that came as "synergy".
I had so much hope about this.
When i saw Jack'o lantern from TSW in AoC, i immedialty thought abourt badass stuff like the Ur'draug being ported too, and the cool looking werewolves, and so many other stuff.
    Aaaaaand, nothing ^^

All in all, so much could be done for AoC, and yet nothing is. They're just investing the minimum to finish old content that was already almost done. And even for that they can't be bothered to add some polish.
And the fact that they don't want to make 12 sets or armor for T5/6 is outrageous.

Meanwhile, dev takes 3 weeks vacations. Because what's the hurry right ? Bankrupty is only in a year, no rush ^^
And you'd think FC would take another dev to replace the guy while he's on a break, because, i don't know, that's what companies do. But heck no, that only happens on products the company cares about.

The most staggering idea is that the way FC manages its products did lead them to bankrupty, so one would think they would question the way they've done things until now. It is obviously not working at all, yes ?
But nope, wrong again, they keep doing their same old crap, because it has done so well for them, apparently.

Well they have been revising their old strategy. Based on their last quarterly report, mid-sized FTP MMOs, which were the development focus until the Lego failure, are now out, and TSW-spin off single player games are in. But if the TSW IP is to be the basis for future single player products, it's rather unlikely that they will change the allocation of resources within the live team (i.e., everyone but Cirith and Pyzerius will keep working almost exclusively on TSW).

Whether this will work for them, I have my doubts - but frankly I do not care about the fate of the company, other than AoC. Our best hope is that FC will find a purchaser for AoC, since the game very clearly is not central to their new strategy.

The developers take a vacation because they feel a need for it (and in many places the company would be legally obliged to let the developers have their vacation.) Them working those 3 weeks would likely not make any difference whatsoever to a bankruptcy happening or not - so it is largely in their own interest to take their vacation while they can.

As for replacing the devs, I assume most of the developers employed by Funcom were on vacation at the same time, with the few devs left being quite busy with their own projects - so there wouldn't be anybody there to replace them with. Bringing in people from outside for that purpose would not be useful - with large code bases like this undoubtedly is, it would take a couple of weeks just to get up to speed so you can start doing anything useful.

Well yes. Ibreally do appreciare the honesty. Funcom isnt even trying to breathe any life into this product. 2 ppl working on a game for thousands. We all know that overall management and misuse abuse of aoc has been going on for a while.

Glad i didnt support that abyssmal attempt at a yearly offer.

Its very sad. To see a company manage a game so that update letters a re filled with hey maybe this will happen or maybe that. We will see. We dont have the respurces.

But i really do prefer rhe honest truth. To marketing spin that isnt true in the end anyway.

Lets just enjoyvwhat we have while we can.

Ive got my sights sets on my next mmo anyway. If and only if aoc dies

Since this is a discussion thread for the letter's content specifically, let's try to get it back on track.

Feedback is welcome, criticism is welcome, but let's try to keep it constructive okay?
