Thread: what news about the next arena ?

    Default what news about the next arena ?

    Since the last letter we know that the arena will not be a "solo arena" and will be for a few number of players.

    Can we have news about this pvp arena and pve arena : others questions remain ...
    - when ? 1 month , 2, 3 ? can we hope before spring?
    - ennemies ? It's not a pb for pvp, but for PVE you have told about a pet... the familiar of the player who would be a monstrous form... but always the same boss, it will be quickly boring ...? can we hope a great number of different boss ?
    - this arena will be only for lvl 80 ? or not ?
    - rewards ? epic gear ? gold ? tokens ? (please stop with social items ...)
    - stats ? visible victories statistics or no ?

    -June letter = no news on arena !!!
    is it so difficult to write some words about that ?

    -new craft system : no news !
    -unchained minis : no news !

    No News, wait until they release Cetriss, they are incapable of doing 2 things at once and it's not like they will stop development of Cetriss for arenas when it's on TL.

    BTW, arena combat is a terrible idea. If it's not team based it will be awful, dueling is the worst way to balance classes or award players, because all classes are not equal in a 1v1 scenario.

    Even if duel are not fair, they are really fun!
    and... they never happen in Crom, no one ever go to border kingdom to duel.

    It's kind of sad cuz dueling is fun and a good way to improve his knowledge of our class.
    I learnt more while dueling good sin than with 100 minis.

As mentioned on the forums, the design document was mostly discussing things in terms of solo PvP, but with a fair amount of feedback being posted on the forums, we took a look at the design and expanded the scope to include expanded team sizes. The one feature that would drive the expense through the roof would be matchmaking, so teams for the arena will need to be self-organized."

    in the letter of February :
    "Looking forward Update 4.6 will contain the new crafting system. We’re still plugging away at ensuring that everything is in place for us to roll it out but this is our primary systems and code focus until it is completed. Once the crafting system is in place, we have a good solution for loot and expanding upon the dungeon and raid system.

    On the content team, we will be focused on finishing up our backlog of content (Dragonspine and arena) before putting our focus on the future."


    in the letter of March :
    "Looking forward, the roadmap for Age of Conan in 2015 starts with a focus on the arena we have announced. We’ll roll this out over a couple of updates, starting with the solo pvp and the pet fighting mechanics, followed later by the team version. The reasons for this are fairly simple, a scripted system works perfectly for the small scale PvP and PvE components, but for the larger team content we will need code resources to reliably control team signup.

    From there, our attention turns to a couple of major features that will expand our endgame progression system. You already know about the crafting system, of course, but the other piece of this puzzle is an expansion to the AA system."

    Why no news, no words about this work in June ?

    Dueling IS a good way to increase your knowledge on your own class and how to counter others, but that's all. Once you implement a system which awards people for dueling , that's when you get people asking for ridiculous class balances made around 1v1.

    The Pet vs. Pet PvE aspect of arena seemed cool, but the 1v1 PvP with no group matchmaking is a bad idea. Players might as well continue to use the khemi/khesh arena.

    They'll probably come out with some news on it along with the crafting revamp.

    Funcom can't balances all 12 classes around 1 vs 1 or around mini-games without hurting 12 classes in pve. They spend years for "balancing" and game don't get any new content.
