In Khemi I will set at 90ish FPS but can still drop to 40 fps and sometimes even lower for a brief second while running around.

Its the only game I have played that does it.
In game fps counter may have high fps, but the screen freezes on certain points, esp when you circle strafe, then the camera is in a spot where you didn't expect it too, like it went too far, or too little depending on the fps freeze frame.

Now I wish I would've bought a gtx 750ti for like 120usd and then wait for a system upgrade. Dayum.

I got the i7 920 aswell and overclocking the CPU to about 3.5 from standard 2.66 increased fps by a ton.
Game is basicly using about 1-2 cores and that means overclock will help a lot on this old Intel CPU i still see no reason to go for the new ones since they have about the same FPS in modern games as an i7 920d oced to about 3.6-3.8 Ghz but i don't recommend this if you never done this because there are always big risks

    I disagree with this.

It is well worth it to upgrade from an i7 920 to a i7 4790k.

One of my friends has a 920 and the other had a 960. Their FPS did not compare to my 4770k @ 4.4ghz in all MMOs we played, not just in AoC.

After my friend upgrade from a 960 to the 4790k he could not believe the difference it made.

He had a i7 960, which is pretty much the 920 running at 3.5ghz. So that shows that your statement claiming the fps is about the same is wrong.

Ati 5870, Geforce 660ti , AMD 7950 all had the same FPS for me with i7 920 at stock.
Here is a short test that i did when i went from 2.66 to 4.0Ghz today and it's very close to the latest generation in CPU Performance. Not much has really happened on that market in many years for games you might gain about 10fps more on a 4770k over 920 4Ghz in very rare cases.
Anyway this test is something i did just to compare a little today
It's really a choice between spending cash on very little if any noticeable improvements or staying the same and maximize the current setup without paying anything or just buying a new CPU Cooler.

Yes, graphics cards make little difference in AoC.

There has been roughly 10% or more gain in performance per gen. So going from a 1st gen intel i7 to a 4th gen gives a very big boost.

As I said my friends both had the 1st gen i7 and they could not come close to my FPS in AoC with my 4770k. After the one friend upgraded his i7 960 to a 4790k it was like playing a different game.

This was the reason why I started this thread, that my friends were getting better fps with lesser, sometimes much lesser graphics card than my current amd 290, but still had better min and avg fps. It was b/c they had newer generation i5/i7.

I would make sure to not get a AMD Cpu if you plan to play mmo's since INTEL is superior in most mmo's due to them being coded mainly for 1-2 cores use.
So if you want to upgrade i would suggest an INTEL CPU.
AMD is almost the same when games are really optimized for many cores but INTEL always wins on few cores which most MMO's uses the most still.
