Thread: Hypothetical Fun - SUPER CLASS

Default Hypothetical Fun - SUPER CLASS

So I've been thinking a little bit about a fun hypothetical idea, and thought I'd see where people stood on this.

Suppose you could build a hybrid class using two existing classes.
    - This class would have the combined stats of both classes, and have access to all of both classes's skills, spells, combos, etc.
    - However, it would only have one of each of its component classes' feat trees. So a DT/Necro hybrid would have Desecration and Nightfall trees for example.
    - General feat trees from both classes would be available.
    - Still have the original 79 feat points to work with, to make choices worth careful consideration.
    - Combos that use a certain type of weapon for one class would be useable by the other class's weapons as well. So a Carnage/Poss Conq/HoX would be able to use Pillar of Flame with dual-wielding weapons. Exception would be ranger and bows.
    - Keep in mind class-specific debuffs.
    - AA is not available for this super-class, to skew people's planning.

Given the above, What would your "super-class" be, and how would it work?

    My thought:

    ToS/HoX
    Feat Trees: Thunder/Possession
Role: Super PVE AoE dps healer.
What do you get when you combine the two best AoE damage dealers in the game? Enough AoE to sink an island. Combines powerful Storm Field and other AoE effects from ToS with the mind-numbing amount of AoE in the form of Pillars, Tongue of Xotli, Chains, Inferno, and of course hellfire breath from HoX. ToS gives healing potential, while HoX also lends a boatload of cc to the mix.

    Pros:
    - Massive amounts of AoE.
    - Even moar AoE.
    - Heals!
    - No mana? Sword!
    - Self rezzes for days.

    Cons:
    - Still squishy as a bug.
    - Wisdom and Int don't exactly stack together, though you still get a lot of magic damage.
    - Single target dps is not "through the roof" but still good.
    - Lots of skills to keep in mind.
    - Where did my mana go?
    - Wait no seriously, WHERE DID MY MANA GO?
    - Oh. Sword.

this part doesn't make much sense, since you can switch weapons...
many classes are already forced to switch weapons to use some combos, why would such "superclass" avoid that limitation??

other than that, it would be a cool idea!!

    Because this class is SUPER!

But on a more serious note, some classes are very restricted by what weapons they can use, and sometimes you may want to alternate repeatedly between combos of two different classes that use different weapons. Say you have a Bear Shaman/Assassin. You've got to keep your bleeds up from your Bear Shaman and the armor destroying stuff as well, but from the Assassin's side of things you have combos you want to do as well on a regular basis. Combo switching would be very tedious. These super classes are not designed like the regular Conq or Barb who can meaningfully weapon swap for the right purposes without losing functionality in one stance or another. Their combos are split between two weapons, while classes like Assassin, HoX, Bear Shaman have a lot of combos centered around one weapon.

Guild wars (at least the original, havent played GW2) allowed you to do this and it wasn't so hot...You had to sacrifice the bet feats from one class to make good use of the other. Just look at the issues already with some feat trees. Of course, there would be exceptions, like your Hox idea, but all-in-all you'd have a bunch of mediocre classes. Hell, even on a Tos nobody feats into general even though there are some good feats in there.

Yeah, I heard about this, Guild Wars 2 doesn't have this and seems somewhat bland in class customization, but that is always a balancing act, and the freedom of expression allowed for good as well as bad. Hell, even right now in AoC, you could be very mediocre level 80 just by feating badly depending on the class. Full Avatar HoX isn't winning any awards. Nor are Bear Shaman or Sin who only feat into one tree.

Idea here is to explore what are desirable pieces of different classes that make for the best results in different roles.

Also, I still think DT is master race only because of that one unmentionable AA. What's the best class without AA? Still DT?

i think that weapon switch is what spices the game and makes it more fun...
but i guess we can agree to disagree...
