Thread: Dying guilds

Aside from the normal bit of dissention, this has actually been quite helpful.

I want you to imagine that I am smiling when I say all of this. It helps to understand my tone:

So, in game-mechanics, of course, are not my domain. Renown bug, (which I got an update on here) t5, nerfing things, etc. are all out of my hands. That's why we have that suggestion thread.

Advertising is marketing, which believe it or not, is not what I do. Yes, some of what I do could be marketing, but marketing != community management.

My ideas, unfortunately, are going to have to stay under lock and key. The problem, as I may have mentioned before, is that IF I say something is an idea, I am then held accountable by the community to make it happen. This becomes especially problematic when I can't actually do whatever it is I want to. Posting about it gets people's hopes up, and then with the eventual letdown, people get upset. (As I know I would)

The last thing you need right now is false hope.

    What CAN I do?

As many of you have suggested- reaching out to clans, people, etc. to help us organize events. I love the idea of a training night for raid leaders. Obviously, having more player run events is the key to success here.

So- that leaves me with this question then: Who should I talk to? I have my resources, but mine alone are nowhere as good as all of ours together.

If you wish to PM me a name of someone I should talk to, that would be great.

I know there is passion here. I know that you all want to keep playing a great game, and for things to get better. I want to help facilitate that in any way I can.

One possible solution would be that you log in game and start posting with a script "Tomium's raid teaching -T3" or something like that . But many people don't read forums and have no idea who your are so just like the gamemasters it should be marked that you are from funcom staff.
This would also be a perfect occasion for streaming
    Typing on mobile
Excuse mspellings and strange auto erections

For Fury, try Chaman-bourru (forum name), Vali/Vehl (ingame). He has arranged the few serverwide events that has been on Fury the past 1½ year and I hear he might be working on a new one.

I think that over the years maybe Funcom made Conan easier to play when it comes to raiding. Like you use to have to do T1 otherwise raid leaders would not except you for T2, also it taught you how to play with 23 other players, got to know your class etc., I’m not saying I am a good player properly far from it, but I do enjoy the game very much. Players seem to be divided by how much the World Boss event has changed things, so now you don’t have to do T1 or T2 to get geared up to go in to T3, but it does show that these people do not have the understanding of the class they are playing. I don’t know if there is a way that Funcom could change this, so at least you would have to run and complete T1 and T2 a few times in order to get skill levels up? Sorry if gone off topic a bit here, but because the game has been made easy to play it has made it shorter in some peoples eye’s. at the end of the day, it is an MMO so are you not supposed to repeat things over and over again?

On the "WB has made people suck at their class because they aren't raiding" viewpoint which gets alluded to alot, I don't think there is really any difference now as opposed to before WBs, in terms of how bad people play. There have always been bad players who refuse to learn, and there always will be in the future.

WB has made it quicker to gear out in T1/T2, which is a great supplement/start for new people, and really great for vets gearing up alts quicker.

When Funcom removed the main quest line requirements to access later raids, that did more to allow people to never learn than WBs have.

As for making sure people can play their class before being able to do T3+, I've always like the idea behind the Gatekeeper from TSW.

After khitai raids dont teach playes how to play their classes. 6man dungeons are the only place to relly understand your class, its innate mechanics, abilities, rotations and limits. Its like once you hit level 80 you go to the boot camp doing the starter dungeons and slowly (or quickly depending on the effort) progressing in both skill, AA and gear. If a player isnt competent to finish a khitai hardmode you can be sure he'll never contribute for your T3 + raids.

Many MMO create fan sites, databases and other things. People use that sites to find guides, rare quests or equipement what they want. Funcom must support or advertise sites like YG database or AoC>TV. Because 30-40% players don't know what to do and don't find any challenge.

I am in game as Sugarspice, Sugars or shout out for guild leader of Prophets. I do know that repeating T3 raid leading is really not what I would care to do. Prophets did do that for about 3 years thru the Coalition raiders of Set. The raid worked by starting with half a raid of Prophets members, teaching and wiping until the raid was killing THOTH every week and clearing lower after most nights, I don't think we need to repeat that process unless there is a huge need.
I would truly love to see the big US guilds help create a pug t4 for small guilds with the focus on teaching their leaders and officers how to lead T4, what classes are needed, and how much DPS they are going to need. Setting up tanks and door groups for Sheng, its not just carrying them thru the fight so they can see a kill, its about teaching them how to lead it and set up boss groups, door groups, Zodiac, General and Entity.

I don't know what kind of in-game powers you have. Probably the same rank as a petition GM at the very least. If so, you could do three things...

1.) Setup a permanent forum sign-up sheet for raids T3&T4(the other tiers are well known and done almost nightly with any PUG having a 95% chance of success with the 5% fail mostly coming from Wing 2). I would recommend a maximum of 12 players per raid who can signup here on the forums since you'll most likely get all veterans.

2.) Each raid day, send a server wide announcement that so-so training raid will begin in 30 minutes. Then in global have [Game Master] Tomium announce neatly [Funcom Training Raid] [Raid Type][Required classes]. The raid itself should last 1 hour 30 minutes max regardless of failure.(I found going longer then this without success makes people irritable, lethargic, and generally angry at the game.)

3.) Give out a special "party prize" that people can win. 4 hour pots, x10 teh nea leaf, a couple of tokens based on the raid, maybe a WB purple pet at the end of the raid, a "thanks for coming, hope you can make it back next week" remembrance gift.

I showed Obsidian Dragon how to do Memory Cloud for a few months then when Funcom changed the loot table, all interest in doing it evaporated for everyone.

I'm open to doing the same again, along with Entity which isn't really that hard, if enough semi-competent US raiders are willing to be dedicated in attending regularly, preferably Friday night.

As for Sheng thru Emp, it's enough herding cats in our guild raids to want to do it in a pug :P

Even T3.5 Archfiend and Zaal are pretty easy where a competent, dedicated pug could at least kill those 2 bosses with enough time.
