Ask anyone from WD how their last guild merger went and why within a month they all went back to being Walking Dead and never looked back.

Was that their merge with TEG?

Only the mega big guilds could take on a fresh 80 player and run enough content to make it viable for them. I know in Prophets we only run 2 T4's and one T3.5 per week, so we have nothing to offer a new player. We are friendly social guild that respects all our players and we guarantee every guild member a spot in t4 every week, we could not bring a fresh 80 into that kind of environment. NO we are closed recruitment and are not accepting new folks at the moment so its not a recruitment thread, I am just trying to show that there is a need for guilds who focus on T1, T2 and T3. If a guild is trying to progress in t3 or t4 then contact a Prophets officer and we will help you in any way we can. Our guild believes in helping the smaller and the progression guild succeed because that is what will help the game survive.

One thing that really makes a raiding guild is to get a consistent pool of players who are willing to go every week and listen to the raid leader to learn the strats. A good raid leader is required also. But most of the big guilds will have all 'in house' raids and not be looking for new 80s (or others) to pug out. I don't know if Walking Dead does a lot of in house raids, but there are only a few guilds who will do pug raids during US prime time at this point, especially in t3 and t4. And I rarely see 3.5 pug raids.

Yes, pug high end tier raids can be long and tedious. But they are pugs: you could have half the raid with no clue how to do things or know their class. If you get a good group it goes well and quickly: if you get new players who don't know the strats then it can take hours.

Since most high end guilds don't pug out spots, saying that Crom guilds are dying is hard to judge. I don't know how many guilds right now are raiding t4 and t3 and t3.5 (or lurker, god forbid). The new t5 raids hopefully will bring established raiders back to the game, since a fair number of them have moved as the content is getting stale. Having guildies to talk to and do sixmans with makes the game in my opinion.

Considering there were 6 US guilds that cleared T4 (Rogue Angels, Prophets, Immortal Souls, Epic Guard, Social Rejects, Defiance) and only 2 of those are still around (Rogue Angels and Prophets), then yes I'd say there is a major dying guild problem, at least from the US playerbase perspective. I'd expect a few EU guilds that cleared T4 have folded in the last year or so, but there are by far many more EU T4 guilds still around.

As for other US guilds, the only 2 others I seem to notice are Obsidian Dragon and Walking Dead. I know Obsidian Dragon killed a few T4 bosses months back, have no idea if they are still doing T4, just see them pugging T3 raids. Walking Dead I only see pugging out T3 and needing half the raid or more in puggers, which is not a good sign for their raiding numbers.

Well in reflection to this thread I have no guild at the moment. I am the only one of a group of friends that still plays Conan (I just love the game so much). I have gotten as far as the Keeper and Thoth in T3 before the raids I am in fall apart, only ever killed Thoth two times and never on my main which hurts. I get a lot of offers from Guilds as they guess its funny seeing a full T2 toon with two or three T3 pieces running around. Trouble is I don’t know anyone in any guild. My main has been in 3 guilds, the first with the friends that left, the second folded and the 3rd I left. My problem is I don’t want to have the reputation as being a guild hopper, so am being a little careful on the next one a choose.
Have played since 2008 all my toons were T2 before world Boss, I just farm WB for T3 relics. My problem is to find a guild who can do upper T3 and teach me T3.5 and T4.

So, let me ask you then:

How can I - a (*COUGH*)humble (*COUGH*) community manager help?

What ways can we spice things up a bit in the community at large?

I have ideas, and want to see what you think would work.

There's nothing a community manager can do to reverse the damage Funcom's slow content development has created.

If T5 (and I'm talking new raid Palace of Cetriss, not rehashed 6 yr old T1 raids) would have been released a yr or so ago, most if not all of those folded T4 guilds would probably still be here.

For US guilds at this rate, when T6 comes out there will probably be only 1 raid guild left, it will probably be called the Rogue Prophets :P

    It's simply too late, unfortunately.

What about more community events? Things like the forum games (Epic Tales of Uncertainty) are nice, but our forums are also underpopulated. If we could come up with things that could be done in-game to bring the community together more, that would be really cool.

I know in TSW there are quite a few community run events (scavenger hunts, Riddle-based races, pvp events, etc.) in game that give out prizes from Funcom like Bonus Points and some in-game items, but in AoC we don't really have people who want to make the effort to start something up themselves.

Maybe you could try poking some of the bigger guilds, or those you feature in your Player Spotlights, to have a group of you come together, work with you, and plan things to get the community to come together and have some fun. And maybe even win something.

Content being released fast enough has always been an issue. Some guilds race to complete everything as fast as possible and down encounters within weeks it's been implemented. You can't possibly imagine a game able to follow their pace and keep up with quality.

However, community managers could help with organising events. Years ago there was these light scavenger hunts where you had to find a goat somewhere in hyboria after having sold a little riddle, was pretty cool and i can't imagine it was time consuming. Organising scavenger hunts for instance would be fun, may they be short and easy or long and complex. Helping people organise events with more than just rewards would also be great, and to help list the things that are and are not doable. Organising contests, all kinds be it RP story telling contest, or a PvE contest where you'ld have to kill in the least time the most diffrent humanoide mobs, or PvP contest where you'ld have to kill during one evenning the most players of one designed (or volunteered) guild. I don't know i'm just saying what comes to my mind right now so it's not necessarly good idea but you have the picture.

I know some people only play to gear up their tenth toon in T4, but i like to believe many would do something else, even not gear related, were there the opportunity. During the first year of the game, raids sucked, not many instances and some very tedious with **** load of trash, but every evenning you could pick one activity out of a dozen diffrent thanks to the community. In my humble opinion, if the community organized more things like in those days i wouldn't even bother working on new content.

    Vehl~The Pink Flamingo
    Vahlie~Redhead's bane
