I honestly don't think the contrast between font and background is really all that bad. It could be way worse. Dark text on a light background is much better than light text on a dark background.

As for the transparency, I don't particularly care much for it in those images. While cool, it looks like it could be a bit harder to read the text in posts. It would probably be fine to have transparency in all the elements around the post body though.
