Thread: The Blood Pit

  1. #11

    Default Retaliation: Murder Spire

Amut'Anun crept slowly in to sight, it's tall walls and towers breaking forth towards the skyline from the dense swamp gas as the scouts crept closer. Amut'Anun, former vestige of the once mighty Legion in Flame, defensive battle field of the mighty Snowhawk Clan, always a symbol of a time not long ago when true warriors took up arms. Amut'Anun, now riddled and poisoned by unworthy savages from the breach, carried by the law in to a place they did not deserve. Amut... Anun... The first keep in a long time that would be laid to waste, to rise again from the ashes in the control of worthy warriors.
Slowly, behind the scouting force, the thunderous rumble of siege engines could be heard as they were pushed through the dense wet lands. "Creeping death" muttered the rank and file of the new legion. "Bones will break this day" the assassin whispered to one of the scouts. "Go west, check the walls".
Silence, empty grass... it was like marching in to the past, where not even the shades of the fallen lurk. This place was devoid of defenders. Every so often, a cowering mage would peek over the walls at the army setting up camp, throwing a fire ball or two in vain. It was too late, war had come to their front step, and there was no turning back.
"Don't count on this calm lasting. They will push out soon".
Trumpets sounded, wailing like angry spirits beyond the walls. It is hard to say where the first arrow landed, but as if out of some epic tale of the forgotten warriors of old, battle began to erupt on all fronts. "They're foolish" proclaimed the assassin to one of the scouts. "Look at them... like beakers... running back and forth, barely even able to focus one front long enough to make a difference.". Within' a matter of minutes, two gapeing holes lay burnt in to the walls of the outer keep. Warriors and mages and cutthroats alike swarmed in on all sides, rushing forth like a tidal force, drowning the corpses of the fallen as it surged onward. Many fell, but that was the cost of invasion. It wasn't enough to slaughter, but to truely dominate and win the day, a message had to be sent to any who may escape the fray once the keep was taken.
    "Burn... Everything..."
Fires erupted throughout the entire inner city, the haunting 'whoosh' of trebuchets echoing throughout. They left the temple in tact, but all homes, workshops, towers... lay asunder.
"BREACH THE INNER WALL!", cried the assassin to one of the more seasoned trebuchet operators, and in a matter of minutes, another hole was forged in to the now tainted keep. They pressed on, casulties on both sides evident, but death was only a release to this horde, for they knew that the prize was in sight. Next, the gate fell, and both fronts yielded torment for the defenders.
The assassin fell back to regroup with the scouting force. "You see? Fools. They let their blood lust lead their mind, and for that, their strategy suffers. It's the result of inexperience. Still... you'd think they'd learn by now... we barely outnumber them, and this place is easily defendable... no matter"
The keep began to burn, crumbling in on itself as boulder after boulder drove in to the stone supports.
Finally... it fell. The day was won.
    "Now... SLAUGHTER THEM ALL!"

*As a Troubadour came forth, cleared his throat and banged three times on the raw goat skin of his drum, a long lasting silence made it's way through the noisy 'Brawling Bear Inn'*

I guess you think you know this story.
You don't. The real one's much more bloody.
The phoney one, the one you know,
Was cooked up to flatter cowards ego.
Those that lived to spread some lies
Clearly wheren't among the first lines.
They didn't even get the name right.
    'Amut'Anun' they failed to write.
Mind you, they got the first bit right,
The bit where, in the dead of night,
    They gathered as a whole,
    Beneath some barely standing wall.

Outnumbering the defenders three to two,
They didn't expect what soon came through.
Before the first trebuchet could be set,
The attackers where hammered back to Nakaset.
Shread to pieces as they fled.
Hardly any of the defenders had end up dead.
When they managed to come back near the keeps doors,
They were hidding like poxy whores.

    Soon trebuchets like daisies popped
The barely defended outer walls finally dropped.
Empty buildings were set on fire
    Bodies wallowed in the mire.

Too eager to call anything a victory
The attackers overlook the defenders strategy.
Empty buildings and vulnerable so late,
Most people would have seen the bait.
In the keep's vault nothing to gain.
For it's capture so many died in vain.

They try now to convince with their banter,
    That they dominated this encounter.
But as we speak, the so called 'victors' treat their wounds with wine,
And hope that soon they'll grow a spine.

As for the defendors, they gave up wood and stones,
For the sheer pleasure of crushing bones.
Blood for stone and stone for blood.
I know on which side i'd rather have stood.

In denial they chose to be.

When 'They' attack 'They' come to slay.
For in a keep 'They' aren't meant to stay.
Always out-numbered 'They' yet come fight,
And mount severed heads up on a pike.

Some people just want to see the world burned.
And of the rest don't feel concerned.»

« Listen to the sound of silence
Where are the troubadours of the alliance ?
Did their teeth all get crushed on a Stonehammer ?
We were used to hear much of their banter...

I guess the last attack didn't go as planned.
As they got ruthlessly chased out of our land.
Let the absence of the usual chatter
Describe for you the depth of that disaster.

Now the question is, will they try again ?
Or do they believe it would be vain ? »
