Offensive combat pets can come handy when you need to pull a mob from beyond missile/speel reach. The kappa also gives two decent bonuses. You can't expect much from them, but they're not that expensive anyway.

Thanks guys. Useful information. And using the pet for pulls was exactly what I was hoping for. And adding buffs sound decent too.
And I think I might pick up RotGS.

If you are going to use the pet regularly for pulls, you can use your esteem tokens that you pick up in khitai to buy a manual of minion manipulation if you don't already have a pet class character. That will let you put the pet actions in your spell bar vs having to use those little icons over your health bar.
Its nice for DTs also so you can aim your DT pet at the proper mob quickly.
The Kappa is the best combat pet you can have.. it doesn't attack anything, but gives you one of three decent buffs.
Keep in mind that you can't summon them in dungeons.
I can think of one SC quest where a combat companion is very handy

Sweet! Thanks for the information guys. Very helpful.
And is there a way to buy the Kappa, besides The Might of Crom package?
