Annoying problem, but i dont think you can.
It works right after you change keys to be "outside" numpad.

Like

NUMPAD 1 -> ^

Then it works right away with shift

But for that you need to change windows registry

I abandonned using shift actively, only to switch to alternative keybind settings and that doesn't happen often in combat, used left ctrl to sprint.
