It's kind of obvie that in an mmo that depends on new content and bug fixes the company that supports the game has just as much to do with the state of it as the actual mechanics/game as a whole. If people can't play the game without lag and crashes without fixes obvious the state of the game will be lower with a company that don't fix the problem for years.
