Bears get to hit things. And when you make lvl 80 you get the best fatality in the game: you hit them between their legs with a great big stick and pull off their little heads when they bend over.

    Its great.
I hate that fatality when it's done to me in PvP... note it's available to any class wielding a 2HB but conqs use swords and barbs use axes primarily. A BS is great dps when geared and played well and they debuff the target to physical damage along with helping top up your energy for fights that require sprinting or spell weaving.

Play herald. Herald is best. Followed by bear and templar, but play herald.

Also all soldiers are powerful and extremely easy to play solo.

    My vote comes in at
    1. Hox
    2. Conq
    3. BS
    4. Barb
    5. DT

If I have a complaint for most if not all classes it's the lack of micromanagement, it is the same 2-4 combos over and over and over. A real good class should be like a Stradivarius, hellishly hard and complex to learn but pure magic in the hands of a real musician.

Noticing a lot of love for the HoX in this thread, so will definitely give it a go. So far I've played Assassin, Guardian and DT up to 28-30 and Bear Shaman to 18, just trying to get a grip on which I prefer. Used my lvl 50 boost on a PoM in a moment of weakness, but have no intentions of touching it further until I've atleast played another character up to that level/area again as it's been approx 5 years since last time.

How is HoX survivability while soloing? It does seem like a FUN class, but as I'm mostly going to solo this can become an issue. Thanks for all the great replies everyone!

Terrible. Worst of any class, possibly. You hit slowly (but big), you have no defenses to speak of against crowd control (stuns, knockbacks, etc.; but most of that doesn't show up heavily until level 70 anyway), and you wear the worst armor in the game, cloth (yeah, as a melee AoE class).

You do get some survivability tools, especially between 30 and 60, and the mage shield spell is nice, but mostly, the goal is to pick on same-level targets, pull carefully, get used to killing 2-3 at a time to keep the speed up, and, you know, maybe even don't die. Keep potions running for every fight, and don't sweat the occasional deaths when a big nuke misses. Once you get in the groove, you will be getting 5-Chain Kills regularly, look and feel like a superhero, and think "grind" is another word for "party" while other classes are trying to slash their wrists with the edge of their keyboards.

Really, the first time you go Temple of Doom on a minion and take a bite out of his heart (no, really, the combo is called I Eat Your Heart ... we aren't a subtle bunch), you will have a tough time going back to slow mode with all those classes that wear clothes to war.

Cheers for the reply, as well as the honesty. HoX does seem enjoyable though, so I'll give it a go and see how I feel about it even if survivability might be low. Nothing I'm not used to from other MMO's anyway so hopefully won't be too much of an issue.

Any recommendations on a spec for the first 30-40 levels or so?

Survivability is for cowards. Xotli accepts your blood as much anything else's. Get back up and kill them for the Undying Glory of Xotli.

    Level 30: http://joharaoc.eu/feat?link=v4_12b1...bcee1bd541b9cc
    Level 40: http://joharaoc.eu/feat?link=v4_12b1...bdb41c2641be18
But after that point you start going into Avatar tree until you get to end of it. Your final spec would have these stuff in it http://goo.gl/IKjeA

"Undying Glory of Xotli" being the first of our two self-rezzes, which says plenty about the class right there.

My favorite leveling build is something like this:
    1. First five points: Bad breath: http://goo.gl/DvFd6
    2. First 32 points: The oh-bleep buttons: http://goo.gl/k6NJ8
    3. Level 59: Heading into Avatar: http://goo.gl/gvp1h
    4. Level 75: Ugly form: http://goo.gl/nn0fV
    5. Level 80: Khitai questing: http://goo.gl/7dfbn

But the basic principle is same as Cins for sure: Get up to the stun (Horrible Visage of Xotli) and then switch to Avatar.

Come visit the HoX forums if you have questions. We like people. Preferably charcoaled, but as long as you don't have a [Minion] tag, your chances of survival are quite good.

Thanks again for the replies, and yes I'll move over to the HoX forums eventually.

I'm not sure what "depth of play" people see in DT... seriosuly it's one of easiest class to play, only thing that matters is vom and crit rating ... :/
